The reason why whole grains are more beneficial than refined grains is that they are rich in fibre and are packed with multiple nutrients. The fibre in the diet makes the digestion process slow and results in absorption of nutrients slowly, helping to keep the blood sugar levels controlled.
Any food item that has a low glycaemic index (GI) is good for diabetics as they release sugar slowly. The GI of sweet potato is lower compared to that of normal potato. Thus, it is a good option for people with diabetes.
Other than that the GI of beans is low, they also have high levels of plant-based proteins. Beans hence are a good source of energy needs of the body. With beans like kidney beans (rajma), black beans (kale sem), adzuki beans (lal phaliyan), diabetics can reduce the intake of carbohydrates in their diet.
